PROJECT DETAILS

Overview

  • The State of Colorado has funds available that can be obtained through a grant process to bring high speed internet (broadband) to rural communities.
  • Broadband is defined as 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload.
  • The neighborhoods of Elk Falls Ranch, Mountain View Lakes, Woodside, Douglass Ranch and the Preserve at Pine Meadows along with Staunton State Park have partnered to apply for a Broadband Grant.
  • There are two grant cycles each year – July 15 and January 15. We initially hoped to submit our grant July 15, 2020, but did not garner enough commitments to meet our goal of 350. Thus, we plan to submit our grant January 15, 2021. (A commitment means you, as a resident of these communities, agree to subscribe to fiber-optic internet through South Park Telephone (SPT). Even with the grant, SPT will be investing significantly in fiber infrastructure. They are more than willing to do this if they can be assured they will have customers.).
  • Our desired technology is fiber optics such as Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP). As such, we have selected South Park Telephone to be our internet service provider partner in the grant. They can provide fiber technology and are familiar with the grant process.

Engineering and Feasibility Study Results

Thanks to your contributions, South Park Telephone (SPT) was able to conduct an Engineering and Feasibly Study for Staunton, Elk Falls Ranch, S. Elk Creek Road, Woodside and Mountain View Lakes to determine the details of the Broadband Project and to create a cost estimate. The results of that study were presented via Zoom meeting May 2nd 2020. The presentation was recorded and an is available to us for limited time.

  • The cost will be approximately $3,271,952.00, between all five neighborhoods and Staunton State Park.
  • The route will start in Bailey, run along 285 into the project area with 3 legs. (See map):
    • Mount Evans into Woodside,
    • S. Parker Road into Mountain View Lakes,
    • S. Elk Creek Road, into Staunton and Elk Falls Ranch
    • From Corner of Ella Road and Hwy 126 (Pine Valley Road) east to Quandary Peak Road (entrance of Preserve at Pine Meadows)
    • From Corner of Ella Road and Hwy 126 (Pine Valley Road), north on Hwy 285 to S. Hwy 285 Frontage Road and then east of Douglas Ranch Road
    • Fiber Route Map Route Map (click to enlarge)
  • The project is mostly an aerial build, strung on IREA poles and will follow the power footprint. If power to your dwelling is above ground, then the fiber will be run above ground. If power to your dwelling is buried, then fiber will also be buried.
  • A pricing structure was presented and is available here. As you review the pricing, note that the more commitments we have, the greater discounts we receive on monthly rates. Additionally, if you choose, you can obtain phone service for $35.95 per month.
