Frequently Asked Questions

As new questions emerge, we'll post them here.

  • 1. Will the fiber cable be above or under ground?
  • SPT will use existing IREA poles and follow existing infrastructure whenever possible. If your existing service comes to your door underground, then SPT will follow that path.
  • 2. South Park Telephone is an unknown in this area. How do we know they will keep their part of the bargain?
  • 3. What if one neighborhood can’t make their 50% commitment?
  • The goal is to obtain 350 commitments. It doesn’t matter if more commitments come from one neighborhood than another.
  • 4. What will our monthly rates be?
  • It depends on how much Mbps you buy. Cost for 25 Mbps is $76.45 or $80.95/month depending on whether or not you select a 5-year vs. a 3-year contract. The more residents that commit to the project, the lower the rates will be. SPT offered us these basic service packages for a 5-year contract (Click here for full pricing list):
  • $76.45 – 25Mb Download/Upload
  • $84.95 – 55Mb Download/Upload
  • $101.95 – 100Mb Download/Upload
  • $118.95 – 200Mb Download/Upload
  • $203.95 – 1 Gb Download/200Mb Upload Speed
  • 5. What about including other neighborhoods such as Kings Valley?
  • No other neighborhoods will be included. It would be too much to manage and increase the cost of the project.
  • 6. How long will all this take?
  • There is a 60-day comment period after the grant is submitted. Therefore, it won’t be until March 2021 until we hear if we’ve been awarded the grant. After that, it is required by the grant, that the project be completed within two years. (I know, it seems like a really long time. But, remember, time tends to pass by very quickly.)
  • 7. My house is outside the current planned broadband area. Will I be included in this project?
  • Houses that are outside the planned broadband project area will need to be assessed by SPT on a case by case basis. The initial focus will be to deliver broadband to the current project area. SPT has committed to review properties outside the planned area for possible inclusion once the initial stage of installing the main lines has been completed
  • 8. How will SPT install the Fiber broadband access?
  • SPT plans to use the existing power poles in the neighborhood to install the new fiber for the broadband internet. They will run dedicated lines from the main line to each participating house and install the required boxes to the outside of the house. Installation will follow the current method your utilities are installed today – some are wires from poles, some are wires on poles and then buried to the house, some are buried.
  • 9. Will adding broadband to my home increase my property value?
  • 10. Will the Fiber Broadband be able to offer telephone service as well as Internet?
  • Yes. South Park Telephone also offers telephone service through the fiber connection.
  • 11. Are there any data caps with the Internet plans from South Park telephone?
  • There are no data caps for the service.
  • It’s always good for customers to have multiple options to choose from; so in that respect it is a good thing. However, Starlink is an unknown. No-one knows how well this service will work. Additionally. It will be subject to the same issues that satellite service has now – latency, line of sight issues, data limits, etc.
